#10: HULK #1 – ED MCGUINNESS – REGULAR | WONDER | 2008 | Red Hulk remains on our slates after rumors that Harrison Ford could replace the late great William Hurt as Thaddeus Ross, leader of the Thunderbolts and Red Hulk. As recently reported, Ford is set to join the MCU, stepping into the massive shoes left behind by William Hurt. Fans are thrilled with the casting, as they think Ford could basically play himself on screen and knock him out of the park. Only time will tell, but that didn’t stop fans from grabbing Red Hulk’s first appearance with a high sale of $325 for a CGC 9.8 and an FMV NM gross of $74.
#9: SPAWN #1 – Newsstand | PICTURE | 1992 | As has often been noted, Spawn is one of the most beloved modern comic book characters. Driven by nostalgia and the army of die-hard McFarlane fans, its first appearance remains the BEST and most consistent aftermarket seller year after year. McFarlane teased the “big news” coming into NYCC and dropped that Jokeris Scott Silver, Falcon and the Winter Soldierby Malcolm Spellman and scribe Matt Mixon team up for the Blumhouse Spawn characteristic. Additionally, with McFarlane’s signing to CGC on the horizon, many are looking to acquire last-minute books to submit. This extends to the much rarer newsstand edition of this landmark book, seeing high sales for some time. We tracked it to a high sale of $950 for a CGC 9.8 and a gross NM FMV of $134.
#8: STAR WARS #6 | WONDER | 2015 | This book has gone from our Runners List last week to our Top Ten this week. Fans loved this Dr. Aphra run, especially with the addition of Sana Starros, or as most know her, Sana Solo. Naturally, collectors have been scrambling to collect his first appearance in this book, with the goal of securing this key as they learn more and love the character more. Marvel is focusing on Solo, using the title Dr. Aphra to expand on the lore behind the character for fans to follow. We tracked it to a high sale of $17 for an NM raw copy with an NM FMV of $12.
#7: WORLD WAR HULK #5 | WONDER | 2008 | World War Hulk is an EPIC storyline that graced comic book fans in 2008. With hints of the story appearing in Thor: Ragnarok and no longer being introduced in She-Hulk, fans couldn’t help but theorize that it was only a matter of time before we caught a glimpse of Skaar. Skaar, the son of the Hulk, who first made an appearance in the main 616 continuity of this book (although in 1 panel as an adult on the last page, no less), is a fan-favorite character. and a pilot of the greater Hulk. lexicon. Given that the MCU is set in the 616 universe, collectors can’t wait to acquire Skaar’s first face in the main timeline, hoping he’ll translate to the big screen after his appearance in the She-Hulk finale. We trailed it to a high sale of $316 for a CGC 9.8 and a gross NM FMV of $47.
#6: WOLVERINE #88 – LIVE – DELUXE EDITION | WONDER | 1984 | The embers remain after the absolute tear this book has suffered over the past few weeks. The internet was ON FIRE at the announcement of Dead Pool 3 and the inclusion and return of Hugh Jack’s Wolverine. This news takes on its full meaning following J23, because it would have overshadowed the whole event. While the key Deadpool and Wolverine books are seeing strong sales, this issue has received immense attention and continues to do so. We tracked it to a high sale of $547 for a CGC 9.8 and a gross NM FMV of $76.
#5: SKAAR: SON OF HULK #1 | WONDER | 2008 | As previously mentioned, Skaar is now in the MCU! After its first appearance in the 616 universe, this book features its first FULL appearance, first covers, and its own ongoing title. Issue 1 follows a young Skaar before he reaches adulthood on the final page, then gains momentum as a full-fledged Hulk in subsequent issues. Skaar has the potential to rock the MCU in the future (pending an overhaul to his “softer” aesthetic). Still, some fans are wondering if we’ll get the comic version of Skaar as seen in this issue or focus on this one as seen in his recent She-Hulk appearance. We tracked it to a high sale of $340 for a CGC 9.8 and a gross NM FMV of $26.
#4: DARK RIDE #1 – TOM WHALEN – THANK YOU (1 PER STORE) | PICTURE | 2022 | Dropping only a few spots from last week, this recently launched book is still seeing strong sales! Tom Whalen delivers the Disney-esque cover for a magazine, which quickly gained popularity. So far, the first issue of this series has received a lot of positive reviews and positive reception from the horror comics community. Image continues to find success with this demographic of fans, a group that knows what it likes and brings it to the aftermarket. We tracked it to a high sale of $100 for an NM raw copy with an NM FMV of $66.
#3: DC COMICS PRESENTS #49 | CC | 1982 | None other than Black Adam, the Rock himself, is leveraging his massive muscles to secure Henry Cavill’s return as the Man of Steel in the DCEU. Not only that, but an epic match between the two. Or three, that is. After the success of Shazam and being the natural enemy to take on Black Adam, the DCEU has some choices to make. Fans are clamoring for them to double down, reintroducing Cavill’s Superman and having him team up with Shazam to take on Black Adam, much like they did in this book. With the Rock’s words of encouragement, fans feel strong enough to pick up a few hard copies! We tracked it to a high sale of $300 for a CGC 9.6 and a gross NM FMV of $104.
#2: STAR WARS: HIGH REPUBLIC NUMBER 1 – ARIO ANINDITO | WONDER | 2022 | High Republic Phase II is here, with a plethora of first appearances to boot. Fans have been enjoying this series for a while and eagerly awaited the next iteration. Well, here it is, and the secondary market is booming! Star Wars fans love first appearances, and this book features 5 of them; Vildar Mac, Matthea Cathley, Tey Sirrek, Sunshine and Tarna Miak. Collectors love New Jedi (Mac) and can’t wait to see where their story goes. We followed it to a high sell of $10 for an NM crude.
#1: WHAT IF? PLANET HULK #1 | WONDER | 2007 | As seen in Disney+ She-Hulk, Bruce Banner/Hulk was on his way back to a Sakaar’s planet to settle the “little bits”. One such issue has fans speculating about his potential offspring being left behind, particularly Skaar, who makes his first appearance in this issue, appearing in two unnamed panels as an adult and referencing Paramore Caiera. of Hulk as “mother”. All of that speculation paid off as Skaar made his first appearance in the MCU via the She-Hulk finale. What role he will play in the future is anyone’s guess. Still, fans are incredibly excited as the Hulk is regularly criticized as being underutilized in the larger MCU, with plenty of fantastic stories to pull off to fix it, this one being one of them. We tracked it to a high sale of $795 for a CGC 9.8 and a gross $79 NM FMV.
